Courts in Beaufort County include the Circuit Court, Magistrates Court, Family Court, Probate Court, and Municipal Courts. 

The Beaufort County Circuit Court is classified in the Court of Common Pleas and the Court of General Session. The Court of Common Pleas hears general civil matters involving more than $7,500. It also handles cases of damage to property, forfeiture, and landlord-tenant disputes. On the other hand, the Court of General Session hears criminal cases, including felonies and misdemeanors.

Beaufort County Family Court hears all family cases arising from the county, including domestic abuse, divorce, child support, alimony, and child custody cases. The court also hears juvenile and adoption cases.  

Beaufort County Probate Court has jurisdiction over matters relating to trusts and wills, estate administration, guardianships, and involuntary commitments. The court also handles settlements of claims involving minors of less than $10,000.

Beaufort County Magistrates Court hears civil claims involving $7,500 or less. It also has jurisdiction over traffic offenses and crimes punishable by imprisonment of not more than 30 days or a fine of $500 or less.

Municipal Courts operate in cities in the County. They have jurisdiction over misdemeanor offenses and ordinance violations. Municipal courts have similar criminal jurisdiction to the Magistrates Court, but their jurisdiction is limited to the city in which they operate.
